Singapore Travel Tips

Changi Airport
Changi's Jewel complex has a 40m indoor waterfall, canopy park, and dozens of restaurants. Even a 4-hour layover is worth exploring — the airport itself is a destination.
Gardens by the Bay
The Supertree Grove and climate-controlled domes (Cloud Forest, Flower Dome) are world-class. The free light show at 7:45pm and 8:45pm is unmissable. Marina Bay Sands rooftop pool is iconic (hotel guests only for the pool).
Hawker Centers
Singapore's hawker centers are a UNESCO-listed food tradition. Maxwell Food Centre, Lau Pa Sat, and Newton Food Centre offer Michelin-starred dishes for under $5. Hainanese chicken rice, laksa, and char kway teow are essential.

Singapore Airlines business class: what to expect

Singapore Airlines operates two widely different business class products depending on the aircraft. On A380 and select 777 routes, they fly the "New Business Class" — a staggered configuration with full lie-flat seats, direct aisle access, and the renowned Book the Cook pre-order meal service. On 787-9 and some older 777 routes, they operate an older generation recliner-style seat that's more limited. Always check which aircraft operates your specific flight before booking.

Singapore Suites, the airline's first class product, flies on selected A380 routes and is considered by many frequent flyers the world's best first class cabin. Suites are enclosed private rooms with a door, a double bed configuration for couples, and in-suite dining. Singapore Suites are bookable with KrisFlyer miles but availability is extremely scarce — typically only 2 suites per flight and released very close to departure or far in advance for award availability.

Singapore Airlines' service quality is consistently ranked at the top of industry surveys. The airline provides hot meals on demand (not on a cart schedule) in business class, Givenchy amenity kits, and Singapore Sling cocktails. Even the economy product is well above average — the long Singapore–US flights benefit from the airline's consistent attention to food quality and service.

Using Singapore as an Asia Pacific hub for onward travel

Singapore's strategic position at the tip of the Malay Peninsula makes it one of the world's best aviation hubs for onward Asia Pacific connections. From Changi, you can reach almost any Southeast Asian destination in under 3 hours — Bali (2.5h), Bangkok (2.5h), Kuala Lumpur (50min), Ho Chi Minh City (2h), Phuket (1.5h). This makes a Singapore routing a smart base for multi-city Southeast Asia itineraries.

Some mileage programs allow stopovers in Singapore at no additional points cost when booking to a further destination. Aeroplan, for instance, allows a free stopover on one-way international awards — meaning you could book a one-way award from New York to Bali via Singapore, spend several days exploring Singapore, then continue to Bali for the price of a single New York to Bali award. This is one of the best-value uses of Aeroplan points for Southeast Asia travel.
