One of Velocity Frequent Flyer's most distinctive characteristics is its access to all three major airline alliances simultaneously — Star Alliance (via Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa Group), oneworld (via Qatar Airways), and SkyTeam (via Delta and Air France/KLM). This multi-alliance coverage is unusual; most programs sit within a single alliance. For US travelers with Amex Membership Rewards, Velocity opens access to airlines that wouldn't otherwise be bookable from a single currency: Singapore Suites via a Velocity redemption is possible at approximately 147,800 points round-trip (New York–Singapore), which represents one of the few non-KrisFlyer paths to Singapore Airlines First Class.
The distance-based award chart for US–Europe (23,500 economy, 51,500 business one-way) is competitive with other programs, particularly on routes not well-served by Aeroplan or Alaska. Qatar Airways Qsuite — widely regarded as the world's best business class — is bookable via Velocity at approximately 105,500 points one-way (US to Middle East) on Qatar-operated flights. This gives Amex holders a path to Qsuite without holding Qatar Avios or a special partner relationship. Velocity also has no fuel surcharges on partner bookings for most redemptions — a significant advantage over programs that add $300–500 in carrier fees.
